Magical Moments: Celebrating Book Week
Despite the wintery and rainy days, MCC was a buzz last week with the excitement of Book Week for 2024. This year’s theme, Reading is Magical, encouraged us to discover the magical nature of every book we read.
Authors cleverly use settings and plots to transport us to amazing worlds and times magically. They introduce us to characters who we can identify with and learn from, lessons that include learning to have hope, courage, resilience, bravery, tolerance and understanding.
Students arrived Monday morning to discover a giant book open halfway through Chapter 1 of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, alongside a winter forest, a streetlamp and a magical wardrobe leading to Narnia.
To celebrate the week, Mrs Saw set up book walks throughout the school grounds for children to follow. She also invited each class to write a book, which will be published in a hardcover book and added to the school library or kept in classrooms. Mrs Saw also gave each class a mystery book, wrapped with clues, which was finally revealed on the last day of our Book Week.
A highlight of the week was the ‘Maybe A Miracle Musical’ incursion on Wednesday. We also celebrated the CBCA’s 2024 Books of the Year and had a fantastic Book Character Dress-Up Day on Thursday. The day concluded with a delightful parade featuring everyone from our youngest Pre-Kindy students to those in Year 6.
Overall, it was a wonderful week of celebration, recognising that reading is magical!
Thank you to Mrs Saw for everything you have done to make Book Week memorable and lots of fun!
