Term 3 Basketball: Successes and Celebrations

There has been a flurry of basketball activity near the end of Term 3.
SSWA Carnivals for our Year 7-9 teams have been very successful, with teams achieving good results for MCC in both the girls and boys.  We were invited for the first time to the Specialist Schools competition, and our girls’ team finished second in their pool, recording wins over powerhouse programs such as Woodvale and Kingsway.

The winter season is now complete for Domestic basketball, and the Mustangs had an outstanding season with 30 teams participating. 18 teams made finals, 14 teams made grand finals, and seven teams won their division.

The committee is working hard on preparation for the summer season starting next term, and there will likely be a record of 37 or 38 teams representing the Mustangs.

We want to acknowledge the contribution of our Year 12 basketballers, who complete their school career next week. This group is the first to go through the specialist program in its current form from Year 7 to Year 12, and have represented the school brilliantly in many interschool competitions. They have spearheaded our inclusion into the elite level of the SSWA specialist competition.

The MCC Basketball Academy wants to recognise and thank Alyssa B, Laila J, Ruby C, Kye B, Jamie L and Will R for their basketball service. We wish them all the best as they step into the next part of their life journey.

Finally, we want to recognise the fantastic achievement of Alyssa B, who has once again been selected for the ACC All-Star girls team to compete against the SSWA and IGSSA All-Star teams on Sunday, 20 October. Alyssa has achieved an ACC All-Star Letter for being selected to the team for three years, a first for any MCC basketballer. She joins Jack Whiteside as the only two students to achieve an All-Star Letter in the school’s history.
